Ban on Students Dance Show in Pakistan’s Punjab Schools

Punjab’s Punjab province ordered all government and private schools to ban students’ dance performances. According to a Pakistan-based ‘Don’ report, dance shows performed by students in schools such as parents ‘day celebrations, teachers’ day and school anniversary are banned.

If the students were allowed to dance at the province’s schools, then Dawn reported that the Department of Education would cancel the license of those schools. The order was issued after complaints that students were told to dance to Indian and Pakistani songs in recent events in schools, said a senior government official.

In 2016, Sindhra Chief Minister Muralid Shah said that Imran Khan’s Pakistani Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) members were attempting to ban dance programs and classes in Sindh, according to the Pakistani Constitution that culture would be preserved and encouraged.
