Tholi Prema, the title itself has a lot of craze among the youth. 20 years back, a debut director, Karunakaran, had made a film with Powerstar Pawan Kalyan with the same title and scored a blockbuster hit. Now again after 20 years, another debut director, Venky Atluri, had come up with a film with the same title.
K Aditya Shekar (Varun Tej), an Eamcet topper, comes across a beautiful women Varsha (Raashi Khanna) while travelling on a train from Vizag to Hyderabad. Within one hour, he proposes to her but Varsha tells that she needs more time to know him as a person. Both get separated when they reach their destination. However, they meet again in an Engineering college in Hyderabad and their love story also progresses there.
Due to their egos, they eventually break up with each other. After six years, they again meet in London where Adi is forced to work under Varsha. Can these two iron out their differences and ignite their lost love? Is what the remaining story is all about.
The movie starts on with an interesting narration of Aditya (Varun Tej), where he is shown searching for Varsha in London at night 2 o’ clock. Later the movie shifts to Vizag where an intermediate student, Aditya plans to take a revenge on his stubborn college principal Chandra Shekar by bursting crackers in front of his house and gets caught in the process. Soon “Break the rules” song comes up and by the end of the song, the hero starts his journey in Vishaka express to reach his destination, Hyderabad.
However, his destiny makes him meet Varsha, who prevents adi from having a pole accident. The couple relationship goes on and off where they get very close and also separated multiple times. They eventually meet again in London, where Varsha becomes site manager and Adi is forced to work with her. The chemistry between them ignites their lost love and make them fall of each other, leaving behind all their hatred.
Tholi Prema is a simple love story of two people getting separated because of their egos and later bonding again in the name of love. There had been many movies that had depicted such stories but Love is always evergreen and if you have the conviction to tell the love story in a fresh way, it does not matter whether the story is being told for the 1000th time, the audience will still positively connect to it. You don’t need any Bollywood villain, nor item songs, or any commercial comedians to make a hit movie in Tollywood anymore.
Director Venky narrated a routine love story in a fresh way. Even though he had done an incredible job in first half, he could not carry the same thing in second half, which makes the movie somewhat predictable and you will have Déjà vu feeling.
Varun Tej had improved his acting and dancing skills in this movie. Raashi Khanna got a good role in this movie after a long time and she had used this opportunity very well to showcase her acting prowess. Vidyullekha Raman, Hyper Aadi and Priyadarshi had infused much need comedy as and when required. Overall, this movie, which had released at the right time during Valentine’s week, will definitely receive lots of love from the audience.
